21-day Gratitude Challenge
Good morning! I hope you are having a wonderful, relaxing & healthy summer!
I was fortunate enough to wake up on vacation this morning and get to watch the sunrise over the ocean. I stood there for an hour watching it rise and listening to the waves crashing, thinking about what an unbelievable gift it is to get to witness such awesomeness. There are so many things we take for granted in our every day lives and we tend to focus on the most negative events are moments in our days.
When I came back to the house and opened up Facebook, I saw post after post of complaints and news clipping about war, terrorists and injustice. Now, I am by no means pretending that these things don't exist and aren't a very real part of life, but did you ever stop and look at how different your body, energy and mental well-being feel after reading and hearing about such horror? Negativity spreads fast and furiously. So I thought, why not show people how taking just a few minutes every day to focus on something positive can literally transform you - mind, body and spirit?
After years of going through my own health up and downs, and autoimmune flare ups that (literally) rocked my world (small vertigo joke for those that don't know my story), I can honestly say that other than my nutritional focus and making sure I eat foods that best support my body, the most SIGNIFICANT change in my life was when I began to get quiet (meditate) and start a gratitude inventory. You can read countless articles proving how much of an impact this simple practice can make. I either write down a list each day of all the things I am grateful for (I even list the fact that I woke up today and have clean air in my lungs), or I sit quietly for a few minutes with my hand on my heart listing in my mind all of the blessings this day has brought me. I swear to you that it changed my life.
I still have plenty of ups and downs. I am human just like everyone else. I still get into bad moods and cry at times, but those moments are fewer and farther between, and when they do happen tend to last just a few minutes (as opposed to hours or days).
So today I decided to start a 21-day Gratitude Challenge that I STRONGLY encourage you all to participate it. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose and SO VERY MUCH to gain. Studies show that when something is practiced for 21 days it becomes a habit, and since there are 21 days left of August, today is the perfect day to start.
Each day I will post on my Facebook page something I am grateful for using the hashtag #thetasteofwellnessgratitude or #towgratitude. I would LOVE if you would comment on that post (so I can see it as well as followers of my page) with something you are grateful for so we can continue to inspire others and consider posting on your own pages using the hashtag as well. Tell your family and friends and let's start making the world feel just a little bit more positive!
For those of you that don't have social media, you can certainly do this on your own by writing a list each evening of all the wonderful things (no matter how big or how small) that occurred that day. Consider sharing it with others so we can create a ripple effect.
